Wow, what a month! You've all obviously had a good clear out after Christmas, as we've been inundated with donations! This means that our shop is now bursting at the seams with fantastic goodies, so why not come in and have a good delve?!

18 January 2010
We recently said a sad farewell to our shop manager, Sara. We would like to say a big welcome to Sara's replacement, Anna, who is now in post and settling in well! Anna is very friendly and will be here to welcome you with a big smile the next time you visit, so please do drop in and say hello!

This year, in aid of Children in Need, Good Green Fun staff dressed up in fancy dress (some were even brave enough to take the bus to work dressed as a clown!) and went fundraising around local businesses, raising a total of £154 for the charity!

13 November 2009
POSITION NOW CLOSED. SHOP MANAGER POSITION AVAILABLE! We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and friendly individual to take on the role of Shop Manager here at Good Green Fun. We are offering a one year fixed term contract at £12,800 per year, working 30 hours per week. Please download this document for more details. Alternatively please contact us directly.

01 November 2009
Gift vouchers now available! Due to popular demand, we can now offer gift vouchers. So why not treat a friend to a credit-crunch busting, eco friendly present this Christmas?! Vouchers are available in £5, £10 and £20.

01 November 2009
Christmas is coming! We have lots of high quality toys in store at the moment, so why not beat the credit crunch, and do your bit to help the environment, by visiting Good Green Fun this Christmas?! By shopping with us, you'll get much more for your money and still have some left over for the January sales! It is estimated that over 40 million toys are thrown away annually, many of which still have plenty of life left in them. By buying second hand this Christmas, you will be reducing the number of new toys that need to be produced and helping Stirling reduce its carbon footprint.

08 October 2009
Volunteers needed! We're desperately in need of new volunteers, especially in the run up to Christmas. So, if you could spare a few hours a week to volunteer in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, we'd love to hear from you. We are very flexible regarding hours and this is certainly the right place to come if you want to bring your children along while you volunteer!

Wow! What a month we're having! Donations are rolling in thick and fast and we've had lots of lovely new customers. We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who is helping to advertise us by distributing leaflets and posters, or simply by telling their friends about us. It's a huge help, so thank you!

25 September 2009
New promotional posters available; please help to promote us! We really want to divert more waste from landfill and to benefit more families in the local area. But to do that, we need to let more people know about the service we provide. We have recently produced new promotional leaflets and posters and would welcome some additional help in speading the word. So, if you are able to display a poster or some leaflets, for example in your local shop, mums and toddlers group, school or workplace, please pick some up next time you're in the shop or get in touch and we will send some to you.

The time of year is upon us when it’s time to start wrapping up once more. We have just put out our autumn/winter clothes, and have a good selection of coats, snowsuits and warm clothes with sizes from tiny baby to 5 years old. Prices for coats range from £1.50 to £5.00. We also have lots of hats, gloves and scarves in stock. All the clothes we sell are in very good condition, so why not save a few pennies and buy from us!.

06 July 2009
Good Green Fun is getting a make over! Ryan Phillips, a student from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, is currently giving our webpage a fresh, fun look, so watch this space! Bright new leaflets and posters will also soon be available from this webpage, so if you'd like to help us distribute some, please look out for them in the coming weeks.

05 May 2009
We have just put out our summer stock, so we can now offer lots of summer clothes and swim wear. We also have plenty of outdoor toys in store, so stock up for summer now!

We can now offer a free collection and delivery service! So, if you buy something from the shop and cannot transport it home, we are happy to deliver. Similarly, if you have something that you would like to donate to Good Green Fun but cannot get it down to the shop, we can come and collect it. Please call or email us for more information about this service.

This month we must say a sad farewell to Good Green Fun's Managing Director and founder, Helen MacIntyre. Lucie Southern has recently taken over as Managing Director and we hope that she will be as happy at Good Green Fun as Helen has been. It's not really farewell though, as Helen will remain involved as a voluntary director, along with co-founder Eric Walker. This brings the team's total up to five and we all look forward to taking the organiation forward together.

Happy 2nd Birthday to us! We can hardly believe it but our shop has now been open for two years! We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us so far!

Thurs, 29 January 2009
We can no longer pass soft toys on for recycling so we have decided to stop accepting soft toys as donations. There is little demand for second hand soft toys in the shop as children seem to be bought many new ones by friends and family. We would encourage people to consider buying items other than soft toys as presents, such as books which can be recycled once they have past their best.

Thurs, 15 January 2009
We recently had a large number of electrical items PAT tested. This Portable Appliance Testing was done by a qualified electrician to ensure that they are safe to use. So we now have lots of sterilisers, bottle warmers and baby monitors for sale. However, they won't last long!

We would like to welcome our new member of staff, Sara Murray, who started on 1st December as Shop Manager. Some of you may have seen her in the shop already. She is very friendly, and a welcome addition to our team. This appointment will allow our Managing Director to spend more time on publicity and recruiting more volunteers. In January we will start a publicity campaign throughout the Forth Valley to raise our profile and encourage more donations and volunteers.

Children in Need. Due to staff shortages during the weeks surrounding Children in Need this year we didn't do any active fund-raising. However, we collected donations in the shop and raised £22 for the charity.

Job vacancy now closed. Due to the success with our grant application we now have a Shop Manager position vacant. It is a full time fixed term contract for 2 years, with the likelihood of becoming permanent after this time. The salary is £16,000 per annum, working 37.5 hours per week. For full details download this document (93KB). The closing date for applications is 10th October. We would like someone to start as soon as possible, so if you are interested please email or send a covering letter and CV to: helen@goodgreenfun.co.uk or Helen MacIntyre, Good Green Fun, Unit 31 Stirling Enterprise Park, Stirling, FK7 7RP. Once we have a range of applications we will invite a selection of applicants to individual interviews, which we will use to decide who we will employ. If you have any questions please contact Helen at the shop.

We recently applied for another grant from the Scottish Executive INCREASE Programme because we were struggling to cover our costs and had a lack of staff to run the shop. We are thrilled to have been successful and this grant will enable us to employ a full time shop manager and buy a van to use for collection and deliveries. Details of the job will be released shortly. Thank you to everyone who wrote letters of support for the grant application, and thank you particularly to Emma from CRNS for her advice on the grant application itself.

It's that time of year when you realise your kids' last year's jumpers and coats don't fit and it's time to buy some new ones. We have just put out our autumn/winter clothes, and have a good selection of coats, snowsuits and warm clothes with sizes from tiny baby to 5 years old. Prices for coats range from £1.50 to £5.00. We also have lots of hats, gloves and scarves in stock. All the clothes we sell are in good or very good condition, so why not save a few pennies and buy from us!

We had a great month for sales in July, and we are now very nearly covering our costs! Thank you to all our customers and donators for supporting us and spreading the word.

Fri, 27 June 2008
At the current level of donations and volunteers, we will not be able to continue running Good Green Fun for much longer as we are not covering our costs. We urgently need people to help out in the shop and we also need more cots, highchairs, stairgates etc. We are caught in a vicious circle where our lack of volunteers means our current staff do not have the time to spend on publicity to increase volunteers and donations. Please help to spread the word about us as we need more publicity throughout the Forth Valley area. If you know anyone who writes for a local paper and might be able to write a small article about us please get in touch. Also, if you know of any events where we might be able to have a stall please let us know, e.g. community or children's summer events. We believe we are providing an important service for the community by reducing waste and providing a great source of good quality affordable children's items, and it would be a shame for this to stop.

One of our directors has just got married, so Helen Sturrock is now Mrs Helen MacIntyre! Her email address remains the same.

Mon, 5 May 2008
We have changed our opening hours in response to customer demand. We now open Mondays 9am-4pm, and have reduced hours on Saturdays to 10am-1pm. We hope this will benefit more people than it inconveniences. We are also considering opening later one evening, so if you think this would be useful to you please let us know.

Happy Birthday Good Green Fun! We have now been trading for a whole year, and sales and donations continue to grow. Our first year was a big success, with turnover of £21,600 and 12.7 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated or bought items as we obviously couldn't have done it without you! We have also had great support from local organisations, whose advice and funding has been vital in making our venture a success. Particular thanks go to Eleanor (SEPA), Emma (CRNS) and Alasdair (Recyke-a-bike).

However, although we have come a long way in a year, we still urgently need more donations as there are many items that we can't meet the demand for and we are not quite covering our costs yet. If you know of anyone with baby equipment that they no longer need, please let them know about us - we are particularly looking for cots, stair gates, highchairs, lightweight buggies, travel cots, moses baskets and changing tables.

We have loads of winter coats, snowsuits, wellies, hats and gloves to keep the kids warm in this chilly and wet weather we're having! They range from birth to age 13 years, and cost from 50p upwards.

Christmas items are now on our shelves. We have a good selection of Christmas themed books, videos, clothes and toys on sale, including some gorgeous little santa suits!

So far you have helped us divert 5.3 tonnes from landfill, which includes 1.5 tonnes collected through local schools. Thank you to everyone who has donated or bought items! Of the 5.3 tonnes donated to us, 29% was toys, 23% clothes & shoes, 11% books, 11% buggies & prams, 9% other baby equipment, 5% games/jigsaws, 4% soft toys, and 3% videos & computer games. The vast majority of items are in very good condition and we have hardly had to throw anything away.

Tues, 5 June 2007
We are now selling a selection of Real (washable) Nappies. We have several sizes, suitable from newborn upwards, by different manufacturers including Motherease, TotsBots and others. All-in-ones are priced at £4 each, and separate inner nappies and wraps are all £2 each. We are keen to get donations of real nappies from the public, so long as they are clean!
